A Student Schedule on Your Android Home Screen

Published · Updated · 6 min read

The easiest way to see your school day at a glance is to keep the timetable in your phone calendar and show it as an agenda widget on the home screen. You then see the next class, room, and deadline each time you unlock the phone.

This guide shows what to put in the calendar, which widget settings fit a student week, and what a widget cannot do.

Step 1: Put your timetable in the calendar

A widget can only show what is in the calendar. So the first job is the data, not the widget.

Super Agenda does not have its own calendar sync. It shows the events of the calendars on the phone, such as Google Calendar and other accounts that sync to the Android calendar.

Step 2: Split school and life into calendars

Use more than one calendar if you can. For example: "Classes", "Exams", "Sport", and "Home". Each calendar can then be shown or hidden on its own.

Calendar What goes in it Show on the widget?
Classes Lessons, labs, seminars Yes
Exams and deadlines Tests, hand-in dates Yes
Sport and clubs Training, meetings Yes, or on a second widget
Home Chores, family dinners Your choice

A split like this also helps later. Before exam week, you can hide the sport calendar and keep the page short.

Step 3: Pick the right layout

A school day has a lot of short blocks. These layout choices work well.

Step 4: Set the time settings

The time settings decide how long the list is. They are free.

Setting Suggested value for a student
Days ahead 2 to 3 days. A longer list hides what matters today.
Maximum number of events Enough for one full school day.
Show past events On if you want to see what you already did today. Off for a shorter list.
Hide all-day events On if public holidays or school events fill the top of the list.
Hide declined events On if you were invited to events you will not attend.

If you have a hard exam week, raise the days ahead for that week. Lower it again after.

Step 5: Make it easy to read

On a busy home screen, plain styling helps more than decoration.

Styling options need Super Agenda Pro, a one-time in-app purchase. The calendar choice and the time settings are free.

Step 6: Use the toolbar

The toolbar has three buttons: add an event, refresh, and open the settings.

The widget updates when the calendar changes and at midnight. If you add a class and do not see it, tap refresh.

What a widget cannot do

Be clear about the limits before you plan your week around one.

If you need a month view or a task list, use a calendar app or a task app next to the widget. Our list of productivity widgets for Android covers other options.

What this means for you

Use this short checklist.

  1. Enter classes as repeating events, and exams and hand-in dates as single events.
  2. Use separate calendars for classes, exams, and everything else.
  3. Add the widget to your home screen and choose the calendars to show.
  4. Set 2 to 3 days ahead and a maximum number of events that fits one day.
  5. Hide declined and all-day events if they add noise.
  6. Choose two columns or the day list, and turn on color markers.
